Thinking of a camera upgrade (crop) - opinions?

I've had the 600d for many years and I like it but I feel I need to get to the next step now. Sticking with crop, the obvious choices are the 7D or the new 70D. You can get the 7D second hand for not bad money now, probably under €800. Obviously a great camera - however, its a little on the old side. The 70D has a lot of nice features but its a lot more expensive and I'm not sure I really want to spend this much money right now.

Looking for some opinions on what you guys think. What would you pick and why?

first of all, what is 'the next step'? what do you not like about your current camera?

So I've briefly used a few other cameras and there are a few things I really liked that my current camera does not. I used a Nikon and looking through the viewfinder the image was way bigger and os much nicer. Often I find I have to readjust to get a view of the exposure info etc at the bottom. I like how the 7D has easier access to a lot of setting, more buttons and its generally designed for people who are going to be using manual modes and changing a lot more setting more often. I find that a bit frustrating sometimes right now. Movie mode on the 600d is awful, both cameras are significantly better. An increase in the speed of burst mode would be welcome - as would be better focusing. the 7D has the newer Digic 5 processor, but I'm not quite sure what difference that would make.

The only downsides of the 7D are the fact it uses CF cards - I think you can get an adaptor though. Also its physically a much bigger camera and heavier too. I know the 7D will be great but I'm wondering if I should stretch and get the 70D?

you should go to a camera shop & have a look at both models & then make a decision from that

A little, but not very much. Both cameras have very high burst rates. Way more than the 600d anyway!

7D is digic 4, not 5. Honestly its no different image quality to your 600D. The build quality and controls are much nicer though. Just dont expect any difference whatsoever in image quality.

Sorry typo - that was supposed to be 70d has digic 5. I know 7d won't have any difference. Happy with control benefits. How much if a difference will the 70d digic 5 make?

    Same sensor too IIRC.

New 7D coming out with the 70D sensor in it, might be worth holding off for that

Ahh ok, to far away. I'm mostly convinced that the 7D is the one for me, the only thing that puts me off is its size and lack of SD card slot. I need to get my hands on both and see really
