Ford galaxy wipers turning on themselves

    Got a 01 ford galaxy 1.9tdi 115bhp.
The wipers just switch on when it pleases itself and may or may not go of during the journey.
The only respite from the ghosts in the machine is if I press the wiper stalk forward for the back wiper which seems to turn of the front wipers but when I flip it back it is more than likely the front ones will come back on even if in the off position.
Where would I start on this one?

There wouldn't be a rain sensor fitted by any chance?

    There is senors on it.
It is turned on by turning on and of intermittent wiper and this is supposed to switch of when the ignition is switched of and you have to repeat the process on the next drive to put the sensor back on.

Maybe the sensors are damaged, can happen easily enough when the wipers are turned on when the windscreen is dry. Over time when this happens the sensors cant tell when it is or isnt raining and turn on whenever they feel like.

Thanks for the reply lads, would it be easy to to try and disconnect the sensors altogether because it is not something I really need in my life considering there is a lot bigger disasters looming on this bucket .

Is there a separate fuse for the sensors as reading on the galaxy forums it seems that they have all the wipers fuse maps stated in the wrong places.
