It's a disappointing step back from fighting Kiko. Hopefully he can kick on after this. Quigg won't go near Frampton so there's no real big fights for Frampton unless he crosses the pond but can't see that happening any time soon. Leaving Hearn was a shocking decision.

Should be a great atmosphere at the fight. Willie Casey is on the undercard too, who's better than Parodi imo.

anybody know how the weigh ins went?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,756 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

It's not as big a step back as i first thought, i have only watched small bits of Parodi and he seems a decent enough boxer who will have a reach advantage on Frampton, don't think it's an early night for Carl probably a similar round stoppage to KIKO

Anyone watching the undercard, how in the name of god did Casey ever fight for a world title Mcculough outboxing him badly Willie looks domestic level tonight.

He has never looked anything but domestic class.

What time is the Frampton fight?

Big Bang stopped in the 9th. Entertaining scrap that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Good, entertaining fight that. Was surprised with McCullough early on going toe-to-toe with such a height advantage (not that he was doing too badly at it), but once he kept it at a distance he was the better boxer.

Have to mention Ryan Burnett too. It was my first chance to have a look at the former Youth Olympic champion and I was very, very impressed. Obviously the opponent wasn't up to much, but Burnett's speed and all-round ring generalship was surprising for one so young. Keep an eye on him.

I wasn't referring to that match. I should have made that clearer. That was a great scrap. Competitive! I was referring to the many hyped matches we see where one fighter is completely out of his depth. Tonight being an example, and being similar to nights in the national stadium.

I didn't bring Dunne up. I answered a post relating to the hype and atmosphere created. Sad you're still following/quoting me. I could say that, no?

    Very impressive boxing from Frampton.
So sharp from the very beginning.
    He's improving all the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 790 ✭✭✭alanceltic

Parody carried absolutely no power which meant that Frampton could fightcompletely on his own terms. He wont have many easier fights than that one. Great atmosphere! Am I the only one who thinks McGuigan is a bit of a muppet?

I can't see how we can really assess him fairly. That foe was very limited. Very!

Would strongly recommend Frampton to never fight Rigo or Donaire.

Frampton is the real deal man i know his opponent was limited but seriously look how he took that guy out what a body shot, he will beat both KIKO and Matabulu, oh and he will beat Quigg trust me, Quigg was shown up against Salinas Carl would smash him

Good thing he didn't say their names then when he was calling out the super bantamweights. :D

Well, he already beat Kiko and it was for me his best win and performance. He has not fought any world class opposition. Unless we really believe Kiko to be that? Yes, IBF champ, but isn't that a bit sad?

I agree that the opponent wasn't elite, but I'm talking about the manner in which he boxes. His accuracy and timing are very impressive. I don't think he's a monster puncher though, but there's no doubt he hits hard.

And bear in mind I've never been shouting off the rooftops about Frampton unlike an awful lot of others here. I still think Quigg is a tough fight for him, but on their last performances Frampton should be favoured.

What the f*ck is wrong with you people?
    What a miserable shower.

The same old crap about a person who is a WORLD CHAMPION, but somehow he's not "world class". Brilliant.

I'll reply to this, and leave the other post!:)

I am a fan of Frampton. I did think that he did well tonight and he did look sharp and strong. I was just making the point that this guy was far too limited for me to make a real call on Carl's performance. I don't think Quigg will be a real tough scrap. I would expect a clear win for Carl

If your a world champion you are world class, Regardless if he fights KIKO or Matabulu for the title Frampton will likely beat both and comfortably therefore i'd say it's a very good shout Carl will become world champion next year

i couldnt disagree with anything there.

I think at the end of 3rd or 4th McQuigan asked Carl did the frenchie have any power. Carl just replied, "NO".

Now anyone hear that has boxed, or even sparred knows if your opponent has no power, you nearly always just walk them down, and sometimes, stupidly disregard their efforts as they simply have no effect. I think at times last night Carl was guilty of this. Ok, he didnt take too many shots, but there was one or two that he didnt need to take. But as i said, there was never any danger as your man was a bit powder puff.

As for the Quigg fight. I genuinely cant see any argument for Quigg beating Carl

Carl was an excellent amateur even though his style always suited the pro game more. He has outstanding power, and in either hand. He's extremely fast, can fight off the front foot and the back foot (as he showed against Kiko). He's a cardio machine.

Quigg on the other hand has literally no amateur experience. Has good power, but not as much as the Tigers Bay Tyson . He can only fight one way, and thats going forward, he showed, for me anyway that has lack of amateur experience nearly cost him in his last fight. I still think he's learning on the job some what. He matches Carl for fitness though, there's no denying that.

If you break both fighters down like i have done above. Then for me there is no argument for Quigg winning. Baring of course the punchers chance which can always happen in boxing. But you know where im coming from.

Having an alphabet belt is not the same as being a world champion.

Are you aware that when Azumah was Commonwealth champ and was offered good money to defend against a certain Monaghan man, he refused?

Besides, Barry only held the world title for one year. I'm convinced if he had held it a little longer they would have fought for huge money. I think Nelson would have won narrowly on points but it would have been a cracker.

Sadly it will be fairly easy to avoid Rigo. Neither his promoter nor HBO seem to have a whole pile of interest in him.

Don't rule it out, you do know who manages Rigo???? He will be acutely aware of Frampton and IF Frampton manages to bag a title there would be good money on offer stateside for a unification fight.

Slightly off topic, does anyone have any concerns with Frampton fighting Kiko (again) after the links to the infamous Spanish doctor who was involved in the numerous drugs fiascos? I was surprised that non of that came to light after kiko landed a title.

I would be highly suspicious of there being big money for Carl to fight Rigo in the US. There is less than no interest in Rigo from HBO in Rigo. Where would the money come from for him to fight a no name fighter? Carl would make bigger money fighting at home against safer opponents. Only takes that fight if he is confident of winning in style and launching himself. Risk/Reward not there

Things seem to be pretty frosty between Arum and Rigo at the moment. Understandably Rigo is insulted at the suggestion that he needs to change his style. But the reality is that Arum can't force HBO to buy his fights, and if HBO aren't happy with the Rigo-Agbeko fight then that could be that as far as Rigo being a headliner goes.
