saorview - no channel found

I just moved into a new apartment and my saorview box, which worked well in my previous apartment, cannot find any channels. The management company confirmed that saorview works in the building. The wall outlet is an old Cablelink model and there's a bit of paint on the plug, which may not help.

    Any suggestions?

You won't get Saorview from a cable tv outlet, unless it has been re-purposed. What part of the plug has the paint?

    Picture of the Outlet.

Have you moved far from your last location ?

If so, the Saorview Frequency may be different.

    Fair enough.
How do you know if it has been re-purposed?
There's a bit of paint on the output parts of the Cablelink wall outlet, where you're supposed to screw the wire that connects to the Saorview box.

You dont screw anything. You push it in.

Is the socket on the wall outlet that is painted over, the one on the left or the one on the right.

    Thats a cable TV outlet.

Is your apartment complex Cable only (UPC) ? This is a subscription service.

You'd get a Saorview signal from it. :)

If you're in Dublin, connect the 'TV' port on the wall outlet to your tv's aerial input (not the Saorview box) & try a scan for analogue channels.

Cause the length of the cable up the walls would act as an aerial ? or assuming that the TV has an analogue tuner for cable TV ?

The latter is obviously not Saorview :)

Thanks it worked! How does that make sense? And the channels I have access to are different from the Saorview ones, no RTE junior but a few additional channels it seems...

The UPC analogue cable channels - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=86334803&postcount=12.

UPC continue to provide the channels via analogue for the moment for their 56,000 analogue only cable subscribers - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=85829889#post85829889

Well, that proves your apartment is still well & truly connected to the cable network.

Should point out that you really aren't supposed to connect to the cable network without a valid subscription.
