A local radio station has started in Gort, it's online as they are going for the FM licence.

Fair play to them and I wish them every success.

(i'm not affiliated with the station, just think it would be good for people to check it out)

Well, that was short lived from them:

'It is with regret that we announce that Gort Local radio has had to cease broadcasting due to lack of funding . It is hoped that we can raise some much needed funds over the coming weeks to get back on air once again . ...

If you can help in any way please contact the station ....

Many thanks to all who have supported us so far'

    Hi Sofa King,

After a bit of quite time for the Christmas and some fund raising events we are now making a come back.

The first meeting was held and we will be working on promoting the station in the community. We hope to return to the internet airwaves before the end of this month and build up a profile in the town and hopefully get some more people interested, it will require a big interest from the community as it will be the community providing us with news, events, and a bitta craic!

We are working on the paper work required to get our FM license and hope to be broadcasting one day a week live on FM soon. It will take up to 4 years to be able to get a license which will allow us to broadcast all day everyday. this is our goal.

If yourself or anyone has any interest in joining us and giving the community a voice please contact us through our Facebook (gort local radio) or leave a message on our new site which is under construction @ www.gortradio.com.

Thank you and hopefully in the next few months everything will be in place, its a long and difficult road but so worth while!

    Keith
