Thanks but these look fairly professional, hence expensive, and not in the DUblin 15 area which would be another factor.

You want to do a course and are put off by that?

You're looking in the wrong place putting a thread up here, go to the music production forum.

Chances are, you won't get courses relating to Ableton itself, but someone there may know some good tutorials for it. It's a fairly popular piece of software, so most of what you are looking to learn, is possibly up on the likes of Youtube already.

That is, if you don't want to do a course...

For Ableton /Logic / Reason take a look at the online tutorial available for free on YouTube. I used an online course for Logic and was able to get up to doped on it in a week when I switched from ProTools a couple of years ago. This will help with learning the tools. The rest is down to time spent producing, collaborating, making mistakes.

More put off by the possibility of it being expensive and location. Ive been looking at youtube before but i suppose its more having someone to ask when something goes wrong or I dont know how to do something.

I think having a tutor of sorts is a good opportunity for both

I've used http://www.macprovideo.com and found their courseware very good. When you encounter something that you don't understand or something goes wrong there are lots of great forums where you'll get help ( such as http://www.gearslutz.com ).

The 1-to-1 approach can be helpful but it's expensive and in my experience getting your feet wet with these tools and learning from mistakes is a solid way to do this.
