I am a very small Consultancy Company with 5 employees.
I need to send invoices in multi currency, pay suppliers, payroll, expenses.
There will only be around 5 transactions a week.

The prices quoted to me were very high because I need currency functionality.

Can anyone advise on the pro's and con's of either of the above?
    TIA

does either sage or xero deal with foreign currencies? i dont think so but i could bewrong. I have used sage one online and didnt like it. didnt find it very user friendly. i have used xero and it seemed fine, better than sage. i have been using www.surfaccounts.com and like it. very user friendly. its 100% irish and support is based in dublin so you should give them a call to see if they do foreign currencies. one of the issues with sage was that the support is based abroad and i think xero is based in New Zealand.

I use sage line 50 here. The support is ok but to be honest alot of accountants like us use it so normally not to many problems with it.

Why not invoice all customers in euro? save the hassle of bookkeeping and cuts out foreign currency exposure risks?

Xero is very user friendly and Sage is hateful. That's my opinion. Of course if you are used to Sage, you'll find it dead on but Xero is better. Only advantage of sage is that it is more widely used. If your accountants have anyone trained in it, that won't matter though.

And Xero definitely do multicurrency: http://www.xero.com/uk/accounting-software/multi-currency/

5 sales transactions a week? What about purchases/wages etc.? How much of that will you be doing? Couldn't be much re wages if it's only for 5 employees. Might be better off just using excel and having an invoice template on word or something if it is equally low.

Sage one (the online system) does not do multicurrency.

Have you tried Sort My Books? It is Irish, support I find is good and I think they do foreign currency. A couple of our clients use it, I think it looks quite user friendly, it's online with a monthly subscription.

    Thanks everyone, appreciate the time/replies.
My main client is U.K. based so I have to invoice in Sterling.

I would recommend Sage 50 for this, I have used it for foreign currencies and it is brilliant if there is a large number of transactions. I have also used more basic Sage packages such as Sage Commercial for bookkeeping while also dealing with foreign invoices.

It is possible to use more than one currency for invoices while maintaining accounts on single currency software, it's just a little bit more tedious. However, if you are also operating banks in foreign currency, then you will need software which can handle foreign currency as this would get more complicated.
