    Argo.

I'm not sure what you mean by "recent" but Silence of the Lambs, Heat* and Se7en are well worth a look if you haven't seen them.

*Not to be confused with Sandra Bullock's The Heat ;)

I never understood the love for Shutter Island.
"This dude is mental, the best thing is to play along with it while people are murdered or some shit."

I vote for I Saw The Devil, it's a great movie. While you're at it, The Chaser and The Man From Nowhere, also. And Bratz: The Movie.

Argo - who would have thought a film about getting through passport control could be so exciting
Lantana - a really good Aussie thriller
Mother - A Korean movie with an edge that has shades of Hitchcock
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - brilliantly acted and based on a great Le Carre classic book

While two I want to see are

a few years old but "Fracture" is pretty good. One from this year that's decent is "Side Effects". "Trance" is not as good but entertaining enough. "Headhunters" is good too.

Was going to bring up Tell No one, so nice to see it's already been mentioned. That and another foregn film, Carancho, are the two that always come to mind straight away when i get asked this. Too bad so many people have a phobia of subtitles. Their loss.

Does seem to be a dearth of good english language thrillers in recent times.

Another non English language thriller is the Norwegian movie "Headhunters"... don't allow the subtitles put you off as its a fantastic roller coaster of a thriller!!! It recently won Best Thriller at the Empire Awards

Well, maybe the US big budget remake where all the suspence and nuances and character is reduced into 90 mins is the superior version. But I doubt it.

Still, while we're on about Hollywood; I enjoyed Michael Clayton. Thought that was a proper thriller.

Very true, good english language thrillers are few and far between ,they dont seem to be making them anymore.

Check out Jackpot aka Arme Riddere based on a story by the same author as Headhunters.
Its a dark thriller/comedy but very enjoyable.

Other good foreign thrillers are The Secret in Their Eyes, Timecrimes,Tattoo ,a German film similar to Seven ,Infernal Affairs,Point Blank, and A Bittersweet Life.

Some good recent English language thrillers are The Next 3 Days ,The Square (Australian film),Red Hill (another Australian film) ,The Ghost Writer (Roman Polanski) , The Edge of Darkness, and Unknown (Liam Neeson)

Another vote for "Zodiac". One of the very best films (thriller or otherwise) of the past decade.

I don't think I would class it as a thriller really. More of a very well-acted drama.
But its a superb film for sure, and one everyone should watch. Swinton, Wilkinson and Clooney are all on top form.

Gonna go back quite a few years but it always surprises me how many people missed The Game. One of Michael Douglas's more enjoyable movies imo and more twists and turns than a plate of spaghetti.

Tell No One. Terrific French thriller. Engrossing throughout. Plenty of twists and turns without being too ridiculous. WATCH IT!

Sleepless Night(Nuit Blanche)(2011) should do the trick - dirty cops, dirtier cops and drug lords chasing each other, ducking, dodging and walking over what must be the most complacent disco/restaurant/bar clientele/staff in history.

...Other good foreign thrillers are The Secret in Their Eyes...

If you watch anything recommended here make sure it's this. What an absolutely amazing film, it's in my top 5 of all time along with Das Leben Der Anderen (The Lives of Others). Headhunters was great too.
