no discipline- online account

I have an online account for a few years now but it seems everytime I build up a healthy bank balance, after a few losses I just lose all discipline and just eventually squander the entire amount. Twice in the past year I reached a 1000 after depositing 50 or 100. The first time I got a few withdrawals out of it. The second time I just eventually lost it all. When the balance dropped to 800 or 700 I just seemed to want to bring it back to 1000 instead of accepting the losses and withdrawing asap. Since then I've been very reluctant to use the account and limit it to use for festivals etc. Last weekend for the Arc I deposited 100. A bit of betting on regular racing in the days before so I down to 50. I deposited another 100. After Sunday I was up to 250 of a balance and Tuesday I was up to 370. I had planned to withdraw 250 of it tomorrow in the shop. That should have been the betting stopped for the night but No I just started betting 20 and 30s on greyhounds. I was down to 280 and I threw 80 on a dog at evens. It lost. I bet on more and by the end of the night the balance was gone.
That sickened me how I was so stupid to chase a loss like that with mad stupid stakes. I know nothing about greyhounds. My regular bet is a fiver so to be betting amounts like that is shameful to say the least. I would never ever bet an amount like that in a shop and would struggle to bet a 5 on a greyhound. After tonight I am extremely reluctant to deposit anything unless I can be more disciplined and responsible with the account balance. In the bookies I only bet on things I know about and have interest in. They win. Brilliant. They don't. Disappointing. Accept the loss. With the account I remained disciplined with stakes and volume of bets until I start losing a bit. Thats when the trouble starts. Have ye trouble staying disciplined when it comes to online betting and what personal decisions do ye make to stay disciplined?

    1) My hatred to throw away money is pretty strong, so I rarely do anything stupid.

    2) I use Moneybookers and rarely have any money on bookies accounts, usually transferring them takes a seconds, but it's a seconds which can help you confirming that you are making a good decision regarding bet.

    3) In your case it's always an option to use shops only. In theory you should be more responsible when paying by cash for bets and not doing it via "clicks".

Your not the only one boss.
Eg you reach 600 then 850 then 970 and you set yourself a target of say 1100 with the objective of withdrawing 1000 and leaving 100 in the acc so as not to start from scratch all over again.

Then the loosing streak hits you like a speed train until your back down to 200 or less and you hit every dodgy result this side of Nigeria.

I put it down to clincher's disease myself. When you have a target in mind and it's only two , three bets away ..you tend to focus only the target and you naturally take your mind off the actual bets themselves. You only focus on the odds you need to take you up to that target.
A bit like a tennis player freezing on match point.

It's incredible how many times it happens. I also think that when you start thinking about paying off x bill or finally being able to afford y... that doesn't help concentration either .

If I'm ever in that position again I'm goin to track down a reliable tipster or withdraw when I'm nearly at my target as it's better than nothing!

Man I could write a book about this.
Firstly there should be no target to expect to win dont lose is the bottom line. Put away a losable amount of money and bet 1% of it 2% if you want to be more agressive. The truth is if you cant put away a sum that a 2% bet is acceptable then you are talking about digging into your everyday cash without thinking which enevitabily ends in losses.

No matter what your state of mind is gambling always holds a breakdown situation that the bookmakers hope for, a meltdown where one goes into the casino and loses everything. You must realise this and take every pre-caution to stop this happening, withdraw funds over 3% of bank, vow to not go on site outside considered situations, use bonuses to the maximum ( EG bet both sides of a game )

Realise there is nothing wrong with blindly gambling but stake accordingly. EG I have €2000 bank my normal bet is 2% (€40) so bets on the cuff, a bet on a telivised game etc possibily €10 and treat any winnings in a seperate fund like shares. This may sound over the top but if you want to win ( or not lose) cash to these greedy bastards, thats what you have to do. Separate goods bets from guess bets.
