Ariva 120 - Scart only output

    Hi,

My Ariva 120 has worked solidly since purchase locally online in July 2011 - Satellite.ie :)

However, today, it seemed to go dead. There was no output, even tho the remote did change the display and would turn it on/off etc.
I normally used an HDMI cable. I tried a scart and it works perfectly with the scart -obviously resolution is not up to HDMi standard :(

I checked the HDMI cable by substitution of a known working one. No good :(

I checked the Ariva box on another TV -again scart only :(

Could this be a firmware issue ? ( Says he hopefully :D )
    Can the firmware corrupt ?

I don't want to blindly update/reinstall the firmware while it's faulty, in case I make the situation worse....

    Another HDCP issue!

Leave TV on. Turn box off at switch on back, turn switch back on.

This is the solution to handshaking issues.

    Thanks STB,

I've already done that a no of times - to no effect.

I'm a little puzzled by what your suggesting.....

This has worked for two years without a problem. Still the same TV (Sony 40" HD ). Why would a copy protection system interfere now ?

HDCP is more than just copy protection. It handshakes from the source device to the output device.

If re-initialising does not work (ie having the TV on the source HDMI that the box is connected to) and then turning off (at the switch on back), then on the Ariva will reboot and initialise the sequence (loading that Ali driver that connects the HDMI device via the handshaking process) then it could be an issue with the firmware or the HDMI port could be blown on either the output of the Ariva or the Input on the TV.

Try a different HDMI device (DVD Player ?) on the same HDMI input or try a different HDMI input on the TV (using the same sequence I suggested above).

HDCP issues are common. Normally, its not the box its the receiving device (the TV) or the cable being used.

Process of elimination will tell you whether the box HDMI is blown or the HDMI input on the TV is blown or whether the cable is fecked.

From what you have said that it happened all of sudden may point towards a blown port on the box, try the above first.

BTW. Upgrading the firmware will not invalidate anything. I presume you dont have both Scart and HDMI connected at the same time ?

EDIT: It also occurred to me (from memory) that the Ariva 120 has an option for picking device connection (auto by default). Pressing the Format button on remote cycles through HDMI/Scart/etc ?

I've got a Sony Blue Ray DVD and a Media Player that both have HDMI - they works perfectly in all the HDMI ports (3 of them). So I think that proves the TV ports are OK ?

I tried the box on all three HDMI ports - no output received at any one of them.

I swapped HDMI cables with the BlueRay /Media player. All cables seem ok.

I tested it now again and the Ariva displays "ON" when switched on, Then the "ON" changed to "on" (lower case) , then it shows what looks like "57r7" in the display.
Can't remember seeing the "57r7" before. I wonder if this an error code ?

The FORMAT button does change the box display, but no video :(

    The OPT button likewise.

I did not have a scart cable connected until debugging the HDMI problem. Then, I did have both connected and was able to swap over to AV(scart) with the TV/SAT button on remote. With the scart disconnected - still no joy on HDMI.

I now have to have the scart to see anything.

Searching around on the net, I came across a reference to a loss of HDMI data on a board in the Sony TV. I now notice that the TV does not detect HDMI devices (this is an item on the SEttings otion of the TV. I don't know if it ever did operate.(Sony KDL40V4000).

Could it be a software update to the Tv that did it ? It's set to automatically update software version.
There seems no way to manually force a software update on it. It would be a bummer if I had to deliver it to a Sony Dealer to get a firmware fix !

Now how do I determine the latest available version level of the sony firmware for this model ? Tho it does look like a tech only upgrade, sadly

It all points to a failure in the box.
I've nothing to lose by updating the Ariva firmware. May try that as a last DIY resort.

I looked for the error code "57r7" - found it on a Polish site - so it looks like it *is* an error code. And maybe it points to HDMI failure ???

Corrupt firmware if the S7r7 loop.

Did you say you can use this with Scart with no problem ? And the remote still works ? If so you wont have to use a Null modem cable, you can use a USB stick.

If so download the latest firmware for the 120, unzip it, stick the abs file on a USB stick/device. Insert in box and menu options, do upgrade by USB, pick allcode and bootloader and let it flash to 100%, box will reboot. When it does, switch off box, disconnect scart, connect HDMI and switch box back on.

You will have to rescan your channel lists and create your favourite group again. This is a good time as all the TPs are being moved around for 28.2 at the moment.

Firmware has been updated - 100% success :)

I'm now operating on HDMI again.:P:P

Terrestrial channels all found and working - now scanning for SAT chans.

You really are an asset to this forum. Take a bow.
