Magnetic screwdriver heads

    Hello

Recently bought a few flat packs in IKEA. I have assembled stuff before and from experience I know if the screwdriver heads were magnetic, it would be a god send.

I'm not looking for the small magnetic heads one would use to fix a laptop etc, I'm looking for a standard set of screwdriver heads that are magnetic - so that it can easily pick up and hold a screw.

Had a look around online on woodies, argos etc but can't find a decent set.

Are magnetic screwdriver head sets a common thing on a standard sized screwdriver head set ? Or is the magnetic stuff only for the laptop repair type work.

I'm sure it's a magnetic holder ( which in effect magnetises the bit ). Plenty of bits included for regular DIY requirements.

You could just magnetize the screw driver heads that you already have......

    WIKI HOW TO

Most of the sets I've had are all magnetic. I would have thought they nearly all were.

You can get magnetic holders in any diy shop, you just stick the normal bits into them.

    Thanks for all the replies.

So I didn't explain myself properly, I have one of them little screwdriver drills.

And the screwdriver heads insert in to that.

So im looking for the heads just to be magnetic if that makes sense.

OR, if I got a magnetic holder and inserted that first in to my screwdriver drill, would that also make the actual heads magnetic ?

yes, the bit holders have an internal magnet.

I too was looking for magnetic bits as was doing a project which required putting screws in upside down and was really awkward, I looked all over the net but couldn't' find any. I have plenty of magnetic holders but they did not magnetize any of the bits I was using?

It's annoying alright that you can't just seem to buy a set of screwdriver heads that are magnetic for the simple purpose of holding on to a screw in awkward places.

Run a magnet along the head and it will become magnetic in a few passes.
    Cost= nothing

Magetic tips lose their magnetism with time, so they don't usually stock them anymore. Too many people returning saying they're too weak to hold a screw, the driver may have been manufactured 2/3 years before being sold retail in Ireland.
Tradesmen do what Cjhaughey has said above. It's free as well, just use a magnet in the back of a speaker for example!
