For .99 cents US. I can assure you that it will be of the worst quality in the world, the plastic will break and the knife blade will hold the same edge as a spoon, sorry to say.

A knife is one thing that you should buy at least one good one of.

As a spring assisted knife, it appears to fall under the general definition of 'flick-knife'.
    (9) In this section “flick-knife” means a knife—

    (a) which has a blade which opens when hand pressure is applied to a button, spring, lever or other device in or attached to the handle, or

    (b) which has a blade which is released from the handle or sheath by the force of gravity or the application of centrifugal force and when released is locked in an open position by means of a button, spring, lever or other device.

    I'd avoid it.

looking at getting a folding knife to keep in my pocket

I see these chinese knives on ebay pretty cheap too

    they have a 440 blade http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fire-Fighter-Spring-Assisted-Open-Pocket-Knife-Tactical-Rescue-9008RDS-/290992947447#ht_4225wt_1090

am I simply wasting my money ?

is there a difference bteween 440 and 440c steel in knife blades

A corrosion resistant knife is pretty important to me

Opinel is a cheap option thats so easy to sharpen and takes a serious edge. But are not corrosion resistant.
You can get a similar one that one of the lads has but i forget the name, its a maroon handle with a stainless blade so lasts, easy to sharpen too and cheap as opinel

I love the Opinel knives. And they are pretty cheap to replace if necessary. They make them in stainless too, but I've no experience of those. I think it's easy to get them really sharp because they are carbon steel. It takes more effort to sharpen a stainless blade. Could be wrong on that though.

Get an Opinel and keep the blade lightly coated with a skim of vegetable oil to prevent corrosion, it won't work for ever but you should get a long time out of it.

They are cheap&nasty copies of quality Western designs. What sort of quality would you expect from a 5 dollar knife that proably cost 50 cents to make in some sweat shop??

If you want a good knife and have something of value and function, you will have to pay Westernknife prices[for something that is proably made in China but with better quality control.:rolleyes:]

as Brave star pointed out a spring assisted opener is proably trouble here in the first place. But if you do need a fast opening one handed knife, have a look for a "flipper lock" design knife. Can be opened one handed and just as fast as a switchblade if need be without the mechanical and legal problems of a real switchblade.
