Bill Griffin Motors?

Hey guys, I'm interested in purchasing a car from Bill Griffin Motors

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/BMW/5-Series/530D-SE-/33413663207151040/advert?channel=CARS

    This one to be exact.

I was wondering if they're alright to deal with or will the car stop after 5 miles because the engine is seized and they will pretend I never bought it from them? :pac:

I read some good and some bad stories...

Now, to be honest I don't expect much from a 4k E60 as long as it gets me from A to B and I understand if it won't be in top condition, but I'm quite fond of "Bangle Butt".

I'd buy the car as if it was a private sale, ie no comeback, and bring it to a garage to get a once over on it before purchase.

MKW motors aren't too far away from there, and they're very competent guys. They did a comprehensive pre purchase inspection on the LS430 I bought, so I'd recommend them if that's the route you're taking.

You might be lucky and it has a new turbo done already at those miles.

That garage comes up a lot here so do a search. What you make of the comments is up to you.

Anyone know what to look out for in the E60 of this vintage? Turbo is one thing, what else?

Swirl flaps - should be removed and replaced with blanks if not already done.

Turbo breather filter - should be replaced with the newer vortex style filter and housing, good practice to have the filter replaced every third oil service.

I may be wrong but I think that may have gone through merlin auctions about 2 weeks ago.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

175k miles? If the transmission oil and filter have not been replaced, I wouldn't buy it tbh

I bought an automatic E60 recently myself in the same price range and it both had:

    1. under 100k miles
    2. recently had auto service done

Plenty of fish in the sea, be patient and pick another one :)

Problem with Ireland is the Tax.

Living in the border area was just admiring all the nice cars on the road -

S class, e270/320, Range Rovers, Discoveries proper 7 seaters etc etc.

    All NI reg.

Mechanically seems to be sound, but the body work is quite rough.
Coughs up a bit of smoke upon startup but then it's fine.
The 4k one has smokey engine so I decided to avoid it. Body is in good shape on it though. Now, about the blue one - if I didn't care about the body it probably would be parked on my drive.
The sales guy was a nice fella and pointed out the flaws straight away, can't say their customer service was bad.
If it's there in 2 weeks time and he'd be willing to take 3.5k cash, I'll take it. In the meantime, looking for an E60 525d/530d for up to 4.5k ;)

It's a daysul, smoke (especially on startup) wouldnt bother me. Unless it was odd like blue or white.

I'm surprising myself by considering taking a look at the 03 one.

wont get in before friday at the earliest
What with another addition to the car family already in the works, I can't buy it without selling the existing bimmer

Maybe it'll look better once valeted :D

Thinking if I should consider an E39 or not. My dad doesn't like it, but then should I listen to a man who likes the Opel Tigra? :D

If you can live with the tax, e39 540i are very thin on the ground these days and make excellent Q cars when debadged.

I was considering this before too, when I decided against paying 1800 tax on a weekend car.

540i is a bit too heavy on tax, insurance and fuel for me to be considered as a daily. ;)

Agreed with 1 and 3 but insurance would not be so high

For me, 540i, 335i/d and 535d/540i were all cheaper to insure than 520d/i

The cost of the tax is factored into the selling price of these cars down here. That is why a 9 or 10 year old 530d that cost the bones of €60k new can be bought for around €3,500 now. ;)
