Last time I was in Dublin Airport I though I saw Mac Book Pro's for sale for significantly cheaper than anywhere else in Ireland. Can anyone confirm this? Any catch, apart form the fact you need to be flying somewhere?

Were you looking at the VAT free price ? They make these more prominent to attract those travelling outside the EU who can avail of them. That said I know Currys in T1 and T2 used to be a bit cheaper than downtown or their more accessible stores. Probably about 3 to 5%.

I asked the guy in the shop and he said the displayed prices were inclusive of VAT, there was a fair bit of a difference between the airport and regular price, much more than 5%. Seems a bit iffy to me, maybe there was a misunderstanding about the VAT. If anyone has passed through DA, or is planning to soon, would be great if you could have a look.

Yeah, when I was heading to the States during the summer, the electronics shop in T2 had the 13'' retina pros at a great price. I'm assuming it was because they were VAT free as you're heading outside of Europe from there.

Yep, it's the cheapest place to buy new Retail

If anyone is passing through and could confirm the price (VAT-free and VAT inc.) of the 13" retina pro's, that'd be great!!

Or you could just ring them and get the most up to date price. I've called them before, they don't bite . . . . . . . . . much :)

This may go without saying, but the Retinas will be getting updated today, possibly with a price reduction, so you should hold off.

Apologies for my ignorance, but if travelling to the US for a weekend and you buy for instance a mac in Currys in Duty Free, are you liable for the tax on it when you come back to Dublin?

Not if you do the whole 'shop and collect' thing.

PS. Find a mate, a family member, or someone who is a 'student', and you can get the campus pricing, which is generally 12% cheaper..

Thanks for the tip! Don't think it's as much as 12% discount on a MacBook tho thru the student discount?

Heading to the US at the end of the month so might upgrade the MacBook then if I'm not going to be hit with charges, thanks again!

Newly released low-end rMBP is E1885 on Apple's education site as well instead of the E2049 retail price.

If I'm heading over to the uk for holidays and buy the macbook pro retina display on the way, will i get the laptop VAT free and as I am a student could i get the student discount off aswell? On my way coming back to Dublin will i have additional charges?

You have to be leaving the EU to avail of the Vat reduction. As for the student thing, not sure how that works with re-sellers.

I ordered one yesterday using the discount. It was reduced by 10% (€1549 down to €1,393.59).
