Wow I'm actually surprised you've had bad experiences, I've been all over with my gf and we've never encountered a problem. The only place it was slightly weird was krakow. If you stay in a chain type hotel thy can't give you grief- in fact as far as I know hotels aren't the same as b&b's in this regard because it's not someone's home.

I've always found if you approach with confidence it's not an issue. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Op, where do you want to go? Ireland? Uk? Europe?

I've been to numerous countries abroad and countless trips within Ireland with my partner and we have never encountered any issues. In fact, we don't feel the need at all to 'restrict' ourselves to gay friendly places only. The only time it was maybe an issue was maybe about 12 years ago, we were dating and I took her away for Valentines down to a little place called Glentworth / Glantworth Mill. Beautiful romantic hide away, closed down now though - it was our own issue that made us alittle uncomfortable as we weren't used to being away as a couple, especially on such a deliberate night ;) Cute situation in hindsight where the waiter bought over two roses and two little chocolates after the meal ha ha!

Depends on where you want to go really, I have had lovely relaxing chilled out times in several places. You want Ireland - where abouts? abroad - where? Plenty of recommendations if you can narrow down the area for us :)

Even though I am a man, I have gone on holidays loads of times with my boyfriend. Can't say that we've ever had an issue anywhere we have gone. We have been to Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Prague, Scandenavia, UK, Barcelona and loads of places in Ireland including Kerry and Donegal , Galway in B&Bs. Never any issue at all.

You don't have to say anything, just book a double room. Sometimes you get, oh I'm sorry, I'll try and get you a twin room, but you just say, no its fine, we're happy with a double.

Often in some places they give you a family room with a single and a double. Just use the double.

Trust me, they've seen it all before and are glad of the business.

    Be confident and enjoy yourself!

It can be fun to go to a LGBT run holiday destination and now there are all kinds of venues to suit couples singles and groups travelling together.
If rural isolation in an eco friendly, lesbian run place is your thing Belatrix a women-only B&B in the village of Castletownbere in West Cork on the Beara Peninsula might suit you. http://www.purpleroofs.com/bellatrix-ire.html
There is also http://www.gloccamorra.com/Gay_BB_Ireland_Links.html Glocca Morra B&Bis a 4 Star Fáilte Ireland Approved Bed and Breakfast
situated in Ogonnelloe, Killaloe, Scarriff,County Clare, Ireland, with views of Lough Derg, the Slieve Bernagh Mountains of Clare, and the Arra Mountains of Tipperary

In Ireland this place run by Patrick and Mark is where I would go, gorgeous luxurious place with great reviews http://www.furtherafield.com/the-inn-ballilogue-clochan-ireland?v=true

There are several websites dedicated to LGBT travel and if you look up
Purple Roofs you will find loads of Gay run/ Gay friendly accomodations worldwide http://www.purpleroofs.com/feat-europe.html
There is a whole section of the tourist industry dedicated to making LGBT travellers comfortable relaxed and made to feel welcome and included.
Some cities have special events at different times of the year for their LGBT communities. In Dublin events like Gay Pride and the LGBT film festival GAZE are recognised as tourist attractions and the city even puts up offical council flags celebrating and advertising such events. It can be fun to plan ahead and go somewhere when they have a festival on. This may not suit you now amyamie but it may do sometime in the future.

Be aware that Gay does not always mean Lesbian. Some Gay venues are 95% male and that may suit you if you are two women travelling as a couple but maybe not so much for any solo lesbian travellers. Couples can also at times enjoy going on holidays and meeting other lesbian couples and singles for the fun and the company. There are venues and accomodations that cater specifically to the Lesbian market particularly in the USA. Provincetown is a particular favourite arranging events throughout the year for residents and visitiors. I haven’t been there myself yet but it is on the list have a look at this http://www.ptown.org/Home.asp

For a quick break Brighton has a reputation as a very gay friendly city and is a holiday destination for many LGBT people across Britain. It is also just a short hop across to London and an hour and a half by train from there. Places like http://www.legendsbrighton.com/ have won awards and are get very good reviews.

http://walkingwomen.com/ arrange walking holidays for groups of women worldwide. Some of them are challenging hikes and some are walking tours around cities. They have been in business for quite a while now and have a good reputation.

If you have lots of money you can go on a lesbian cruise http://www.olivia.com/Travel/

Some Lesbian magazines like Diva have ads at the back for lesbian holidays and they can be worth checking out too. eg

Kathy and Linda at Dìva España provide boutique - styled accommodation for women high among breathtaking mountains, near the historic village of Comares in Andalucia, Spain.
They have private guest suites, self catering apartment, swimming pool and luxury heated Jacuzzi where you can let go and be yourself.
    http://www.divaespana.com/index.html

15 minutes’ drive away is the Spanish seaside town of Torre del Mar and nestled amongst avocado, mango and bamboo groves is Bambu
a rural holiday destination set amidst spectacular scenery, offering 7 quality self-catering studio apartments sharing extensive terraces and a stunning pool. Spa treatments, guided walks, flamenco dancing, horse-riding, wind-surfing and many other activities
...and for guests travelling alone, the famous monthly Sólo Bambú holiday weeks http://www.bambu-resort.com/

Chalet Accommodation in the French Alps catered or self catering sleeps 10 or 14 run by two women and seems to be well reviewed in trip advisor.

Anyway wherever you go have a great holiday.
