    Hi

I was given yesterday an iMac 1.8GHz PowerPC G5 17-inch with 512MB of RAM running on Mac OS x 10.4.11

An upgrade I will need to make is the ram, I was looking around and as far as I can see the max it can take is 2GB (DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V • 128Meg x 64 • • Part #: CT1001178) been looking around and looks like it will be about 40GBP from Crucial or MrMemory for 2GB

Mac OS x 10.4.11 installed looking to upgrade the OS to the highest it can take I think it will be Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard for about €20 form the apple website.

Can someone let me know if the above is correct regarding the max RAM and OS, also any place to get cheaper to get Ram and cheap OS. Anything else needs upgrading?

Is it hard to upgrade the RAM and OS?

    Machine Name: iMac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac8,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 600 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.5f1

    Thanks

    2gb €46

    http://www.crucial.com/eu/store/listparts.aspx?model=iMac%20(G5-1.8GHz%2C%2017-inch)&Cat=RAM

Underneat the screen there's a grill that you unscrew and pop out the ram. It's been a while since I've done such an old imac.

I think 10.5 (Leopard) is as far as you can go with a PPC Mac. Snow Leopard requires an Intel CPU. The last update to Leopard was 10.5.8.

Thanks, is it worth upgrading to 10.5? I was looking around and all places are selling for over €100 anything cheaper?

    Thanks
