Non-standard width gate

Anyone have any idea where I could pick up a gate (your ordinary galv. field gate) in a non standard width, i.e. 8'6", off the shelf?

It's to go in between old mass concrete pillars, which are spaced that far apart. I know i could get one made up, but would rather avoid paying the extra.

    Thanks.

What I would do is talk to your local agri merchant who you get your standard size field gates off and get them to enquire if they can get you a 8'6" one from their supplier. Chances are that they are available but co-ops and merchants dont stock them as they done sell that often.

Probably not what you want but would longer brackets for hanging gate work?

    Thanks for the replies folks.

Hammer73, I've talked to the supplier, who said only 8' and 9' gates can be had off the shelf, but that the crowd that make them will do the size I want for 50% extra cost, which is about 35 euros. (Wouldn't break the bank, but these sure are tough times nonetheless, and every bit counts.)

Cavandown, I was going to do it that way, but it would look a bit rough, and the gate might not be so secure?

Cavandown has your answer. Buy an 8' and doctor adjustable hangers to suit. Will not look rough. If you have only 8'6" clear, then 8' is you gate. Easy lose 6" between hanging and latching side

Ope is actually 8'8", and nearly all the gap would have to be on the hanging side, as otherwise sliding bolt wouldn't reach pillar. Might do it this way anyway, thanks for the input, Muckit.

Could you hang a 9' gate on the garden side of the pillars ? It would only swing in the way but it would leave the full width between the pillars for getting the tractor through

..or make a nice wooden one, but may well cost more and last less

Thanks again for all the replies.

It's not urgent, so I might just park it for a while and wait for the preferred solution to materialise in the subconscious of my mind. :)
