Golf fitness program

    Anyone here gotten a proper golf related exercise program with a personal trainer?

    I'm thinking of doing this over the winter but want to make sure its a golf swing specific program, probably have to go to a TPI pro or something.

    I'm living in Waterford and don't want to travel to far if possible, anyone got any ideas would be great thanks.

    I've just bought a cross trainer yesterday and am picking up a rowing machine tonight and the weights have been dusted down.
    I'll be conscious of keeping flexible with combining these with stretches and core work over the winter.

    The only way I'll get down to hitting 6 drivers a round is if I can get my 3 iron up to 250 yards :D

    On a serious note, is there any big No No with exercises and golf.
    I am aware that flexibility can be lost with weights, but apart from that, anything to avoid?

    Certainly go ahead otherwse of course - exercise is good for you. Jusy dont have any illusions that it will have any effect on your golf.

    Anything that works the core and plenty of flexibility is a good starting point and definitely worth doing. But, as said, it won't in itself give magical quick results on the course. You'll probably be less tired on the back nine and possibly be able to swing with less stress on the body so there will be a knock on effect right there. Picking up yardage etc will take a long time at it.

    Ah I'm pretty sure it's just a fad. First step would be to give up smoking 20+ a day... I'd have to stop mid workout for a fag break at the moment.

    I think any exercise will help with concentration and endurance. I've just started running again. It's been a good few years but I think it's better than nothing. Flexibility will always help, muscle not as much.

    to be honest I'd sat the biggest worry would be that you hurt yourself....work on your core and stretch!

    A good golf swing is an athletic movement. The fitter, more flexible and stronger your core is the more athletic you become.

    Golf aside it's good to be fit
