SUSI complaints procedure

Does anyone know what the procedure is for making a complaint to SUSI?

Having completed the first year of my course last year, I transferred into second year in another college. I contacted the SUSI support desk on multiple occasions over the summer to determine what I needed to do with regards to my grant. After receiving very conflicting pieces of advice on each occasion, I was finally told that I would be able to amend my application to reflect the new course. I was later told that my application was approved.

Today, however, I called the support desk again to see why I had not received a confirmation letter. I was told that I need to cancel my application and make a new one from scratch. My college requires half of the fees to be paid by the end of this month, and I have been told that this will take another 10 to 12 weeks to complete. I am entirely dependent on the grant to go to college.

I followed every piece of advice that I was given, only to now be told that this was incorrect. I made sure to inform them as soon as applications opened, in the hope that I would have my grant for when I started college. This has left me in a very uncertain position at present.

Are these reasonable grounds to make a complaint?

Yes - absolutely and if you don't get anywhere with SUSI bring it to the Ombudsman

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
