    Hey everyone.

Have a 07 Grande Punto Van as some of you might know. DOE til next Sept, tax til December clean van all around. I'm looking to change back to a car, sick of having no back seats, also want something with a bit of power as the GP is only a 1.2.

Ive been offered a 04 Hyundai Coupe 1.6 absolutely mint not a mark inside out. Passed nct yday til 2015, new brakes and shoes all around and just got a full service. A couple of hundred my way too (maybe enough to cover 1yr tax)

Do you think it's worth it my end? Both similarly priced cars but mine would be worth that bit more. Are coupes any good -mpg wise or in generally hyundais any use? Thanks in advance

BTW there's only 59k miles on the coupe and on it's 2nd lady owner, 72k miles on mine. The belt has been done at 40k on coupe too.

I'd say the Punto is faster than the Hyundai in the real world.

Actually think the punto is a more sophisticated car vs a coupe. They're a very dated design and 1.6 pathetic. Noted for their poor fuel consumption as well. Big contrast to the punto which I'd imagine is excellent on fuel.

I actually like the look of the coupes. I'm on my 3rd punto now so there's no sophistication anymore :p 37mpg officially I think? I get around 40 depends how I drive. No major difference. Maybe I should've rephrased the original post, of understand the coupe is not quick in terms as a 1.6 car (one of the slowest infact) but it would have to feel a bit quicker than the GP. Sure I wouldn't be going over 160 anyway, the main reason I want to change is to go back to a car!

In terms of the deal itself do you think I'd be getting a good one? I quote, the coupe is 100% not a scratch mark or dent and interior is spotless.

What do you mean by going over 160?

I know a Hyundai coupe owner who has one and loves it, and drives like a lunatic, ramps are there to launch into the air.
It is very uncomfortable suspension wise.

They like to drive at high speeds also and it's not the most pleasant experience.

I have gotten out of their car on occasion and felt like I'd been through some sort of roller coaster.

If you're doing short journeys the mpg you'll achieve in the coupe will drop to mid 20's

plus you are losing three years and (almost) going to a ten year old car especially with 2014 being weeks away

And no a 1.6 hyundai coupe is way slower than a 1.2 Punto , look up power to weight ratios, stick with the Punto

Thanks everyone... think I might leave it so. Would be unwise to go to an older car and I didn't know it was that under powered and mpg could go that low. Cheers

Reading around a couple of places apart from sometimes some having electrical faults the engines seem bulletproof enough though? I'd have it serviced every couple of 1000 miles anyway... What if I went for a 06/07 model (sell my car and add a few quid), they're only going for just over 4k. Just want a car with a bit of style with no problems

It sounds to me as if you have already decided and are looking for justification for you decision. You like the look of the car but you don't see the body when you are driving and no amount of reading on the internet or anywhere else will tell you if you actually like driving the car

Why not see if you can take one out for a test drive for an hour or two and see how you find it in the real world.:)

Hey man, the top of the line 2004 Coupes are going for less that 4K from a dealer (and that's a 2.0 auto) and your car is worth more than that all day long. Throwing a few hundred towards it as well doesn't make any sense. I can't see how you wouldn't sell on your car easily over Done Deal or Carzone.

FYI - I was offered €1500 as a trade for my 2006 GP - sold it for €3300 privately, it's always better to sell if you have the time. You going into any dealer with €4000 cash will get you a properly good car + warranty + plenty of bargaining possible. Can you go long without the car (driving your dads one)?

Wheresmyforkandknife - Thanks for the post I completely understand :) A test drive would definitely be needed of course!!

Advertsfox - Cheers mate, well i'd be looking for very minimum a 05, hopefully a 06 as possible straight swap or whatever I get for my car privately should cover it! I wouldn't go to a dealer, i know the warranty etc would be a peace of mind, but i'd personally just go with a mechanic to get stuff thoroughly checked out and go from there.

I'm so undecisive these days, must've texted about 3 or 4 people about sporting puntos and coupes last night, woke up to a load of messages and trying to puzzle together who owns what car :D
