Picked up an 06 Zafira,1.6 the weekend, 125,000kms on the clock, seller said belt was done but am not too sure if it was, had a quick look and it seems fine but there aren't any markings to say the belt was done and every car I have had always had marked somewhere to say when belt was done. Is there any way to tell if it has been done? This would have been its first change.
    Thanks

Not too sure and am willing to be corrected but don't manufacturers belt have the brand name on them ?
I know the Hyundai used to, I once had a belt go 3 weeks after I got it done, I had bought the kit and gave it to the mechanic to fit, was a gates belt and the one that broke was Hyundai !

Unless the seller can produce a receipt, I'd get it done. There is really no definitive way of knowing for sure from a visual inspection. TBH, I'd not necessarily trust the tippex markings you'd sometimes come across either!

If you remove top cover from timing belt you may see markings on new belt. Only way to be sure is remove belt & physically check it and pulleys. Water pump is driven by alternator belt on that engine so not essential to replace when doing cam belt but best practice to replace it. There are also some chancers that replace belt only and leave tensioners and aux pulleys which is a waste of time. As said, unless you have an invoice from a reputable garage showing what was done I would recommend having it replaced. Only way to have peace of mind and avoid knackered engine. FYI Z16XEP Zafira engine belt interval is 150k.
