Is there no end to this guy's talent, I've long praised MK and I've always been a massive fan of his work, for me personally he is the undisputed king when it comes to remixing, he's also an excellent DJ.

After a long absence he came back on the scene and it appears loads of younger clubbers are raving (no pun intended lol) about him, not to mention older clubbers like myself he's playing the Button factory and Village October bank holiday weekend and I'm hoping to catch him then as I missed his him @ Defected in the house in Ibiza as I was flying back that night.

do excellent DJs usually use the sync button and no headphones?

Well technically yes on occasions Richie Hawtin amongst other DJs have done this before., and Hawtins biography speaks for itself as does MK's.

Having said that I'll always rate MK as a top class remixer /producer first and foremost!

It's not like you even really need headphones when you're using CDJ 2000's tbh, you have all your cuepoints saved, you have a decimal accurate bpm counter, you have an LED readout of the percentage you've moved your pitch by, all you need then is the rule of sixes and you're away on a hack. Plus most of that really tracky house music is written at 126 / 128 anyway, and you've got six or seven minutes to get the next tune cued up, with a cue-button if you fluff a cue.

Sync buttons are a whole other seperate level of lame after that mind you.

Hawtins early discography speaks for itself, I think it's fair game to dismiss pretty much everything he's done in his latter gay, blond hitler phase.

PMSL loving you're choice of words there

I'd be more into Hawtins earlier stuff as well but he's still at the top of his game seen him in Ushuaia in Ibiza last month and played an excellent set and his night Enter on Thursday in Space got good reviews, although a bit too dark Techno for me these days.

As I said mate IMO - in my opinion and of course everyone is entitled to their own, but MK does it for me. ;-)

i kind of had a laugh when i read the OP . he was good back in the day but he is the most repetitive producer around!!and a great dj?? his boiler room set was a joke, i personally thought he didnt deserve to be anywhere near the boiler room and im not even a big fan of the boiler room aswell

also whats annoying me is, he managed to fcukin get regenereated again  the total wrong type people like him now ,thinking he's god, muppets that dont know much lol and it makes me laugh the way they go on about him!

to me ,MK to the 'house' world is like madonna to the pop world, they just wont fcuk off

Saw him years (15+) and it was meh. Saw him a few weeks ago in Ibiza, it was meh at best.

Got his defected House Masters cd(s) - the sound quality on some of the tracks is all over the place, really badly put together.

    So I'm out.

saw him twice now in Aug (first time ever) and just last w/e at ADE in the dam. New to his stuff as you pointed out initially johnny68. I love his remixing capabilities, and reading more and watching interviews he's a serious cool customer given all the chances he had to go commercial but remained underground!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,755 ✭✭✭A V A

he is in no way "underground"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,670 ✭✭✭jonnny68

It's hardly MK's fault his remixes got so popular that he didn't remain underground, the same could be said about countless remixers and DJs.

I presume this is the same guy who is currently No.1 with the 'Storm Queen'?
(that's a cracking tune in fairness)

he may be good at producing , even tho its the most simplistic of ways that has been proven , but he cannot dj at all , the amount of people i know that walked out of his gig in the village and button cause he was beyond terrible !!!!!!! he plays songs in full with no mixing, doesnt even mix 16 bars into another ,and thats the easiest of things to do  he just cue's tracks and has them ready and edited for when he want them to come in, all he has to do press play , and in the village i seen him do this numerous amount of times

the exposure he has and the money he makes from money is fcukin ridiculous
