Has anyone here worked in America before.
Do you have much to do to change over your license?
    Thanks.

Don't know what's involved in getting work permits / operating licences there but the regs are completely different.

Google NFPA code for electrical work and it'll give you a good start.

Code also varies from state to state and even from city to city, SFO is a prime example: PG&E basically (their version of, for example, Airtricity) calls the shots on any electrical work and the level that's acceptable can vary between inspectors.

That's not the official line you'll get but it's reality based on recent hands-on experience.

That said, if you are a competent sparks here then your level of training will ensure your work exceeds code requirements in most cases but there are curve-balls that can get you - e.g. installing a panel on a roof in Vegas where
ambient temperatures can cause stuff to melt that would never be considered in Ireland, altitude induced arcing in places like Salt lake City, temperatures in an Alaskan winter that can cause MCB's to shatter when they trip...

We joke sometimes about how American stuff is unnecessarily built like brick shíthouses but there is actually a reason for it.
