Zanussi Washing Machine Problem

I have a Zanussi essential 1400 washing machine, only about 1.5 years old and today it just stopped working mid-cycle. Cleaned out water and then filter but it won't work at all now. Machine turns on, so electricity is ok, but the start/pause button won't stop flashing green on and off button when pressed - as a result machine won't start, is it a biggie? Need uniforms washed today! Help!

Door interlock maybe? Try opening and closing fully

You need to get the error code off the machine.

Have a read of this it should steer you in the right direction.

Door is fully closed and this model of machine has no screen to give any error code, when I tried holding start button and button to left of it (auto half load) the green light just flashed to red. It's not a washer dryer just a washing machine.

How many washes per day do you do.?
Asking this cause it may be the motor brushes that have worn, but unlikely on a machine 1 1/2 years old, unless you do 3-4 washes a day.
The drain pumps on these seem to give trouble. The last one I came across took out the main board with it.:(
Take out the clothes and try a rinse/spin. You should hear a humming noise from the drain pump before the water enters.
The door hinges on these are also quite fragile, so give the door a good push to close.

Let me know the model number, written inside the door.

Clothes out, filter removed, cleaned, all the dirty water came out etc. When I turn to drain nothing happens as the green light just keeps flashing, no noise or anything, model number - ZWF14080W - only about 3-4 washes per week on this one - appreciate your help.

Have you tried the old reliable unplug it.

It may have ran out of water half way through the cycle and powering it off might reset it.

Did you check to see if the drain hose is kinked and not blocked?

Checked both - no kinks - switched on/off at power, but as soon as I set it to any of the cycles the on/pause button just keeps flashing, if I hold this button for a while it just turns to red

Did all the water come out when you removed the filter.?
There is a chance that there is something like a small sock stuck in the pipe between the drum and the filter.
Your problem seems to point to the drain pump anyway. Door interlock should be ok as the cycle had started and stopped midway.
There are more checks that can be done also but you really need a little experience in this field to do them.
A blown heater element can also bring the machine to a standstill.
Did you notice the water was warm as you drained it.?
Remember power off if you do intend doing any checks.

Wow that brings back memories - got the repair guy out and he couldn't fix it - he ended up giving us the name of a guy who sold us a very good second hand machine, which is still going strong. PM for details if you need to. Sorry I couldn't be of help.

You might get a better response in the home appliance forum one of the mods might move your post over to it for you.

Couple of regular posters over there that really know their stuff will help you better than I can.
