water thermometer

Been really getting into my filter lately. Been playing around with grind & time but would now like to start playing with water tempeture. I don't have the cash right now to buy a variable temperature kettle so was thinking the next best option would be a thermometer. Can anyone recommend one that won't break the bank. Hope to buy the kettle when funds allow so this will only be a stop gap.

Ever used either of them? Wonder how accurate they are?

I have a Thermapen, it's regularly employed for: steaks, chicken, pour-over water temp, espresso temp calibration etc. etc.

36 pounds on amazon is pricey enough but they work better than anything else I've ever used.
