Indication of a leak/damp?

Just bought a house and re painting it bit by bit. Reprinted the main bedroom last night and when I get up this morning I notice a mark that I painted over is back.

Now - as far as I can make out, there's nothing in the attic near that. It is an external wall though.

Does that indicate damp? Gonna get a lend of a ladder and take a look at the guttering outside.

    Anyone recognize this?

Ps. Semi D circa 2001. This wall is an external wall.

It's an old damp spot, you need to coat over the stain with ordinary oil based undercoat (white). When its dries coat again with your ceiling paint.
