I'm a Complete novice in relation to aircraft but just today I noticed all aircraft flying high had this white smoke behind it that I've seen for many yrs.

Is it altitude and temperature related???

Can any1 clear up my question

    Yep, google contrails. It's quicker.

I wrote this article on how they form. Unfortunately there are some nutters who will have you believe that they are not contrails but are chemtrails (chemicals being sprayed on us). The article debunks their claims.

Smoke from aircraft engines is black.

The white stuff you see are contrails which is only condensed water vapour. The length of time they are visible for is dependant on temp/humidity @ at a given altitude.

Chemtrails was always one of my all time favorite conspiracy theory's.

During the heat wave in the summer i was taking a break from a cycle on the Clontarf promenade and a plane flew over and the second it flew from the sea to over the land the contrails started. I thought it was strange that it happened like that. Any reason for why it happens like that?

It was just coincidence. It entered an area of increased upper relative humidity or was climbing from say Manchester and reached a high enough altitude for contrails as it reached the east coast.

...alternative explanation is (obviously) that once the aircraft made landfall, pilot flicked the 'chem spread' switch. :p

Its funny how little the aircraft(and its fuel tanks in wings) look versus the size of the trails.

What exactly are these chemical spreading aircraft supposed to be spraying?

Is it like Bromide in the tea during the 50's?
