2001 Ford Focus revving issue

The other half has a 2001 Ford Focus 1.4 Zetec SE to be precise.

When you rev the engine from idle in neutral its is normal but when the revs come down it will stick at 2000 rpm for a few seconds then drop down. This will happen when driving also.

Also the speedo drops in and out and I know that is just a sensor on top of the gearbox but would this cause the revving issue?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

My first guess would be a dirty throttle body. Clean it out and try again :)

Already done that :P Maybe a good used one might be worth a try?

Checked all the pipes I could see and no tears or leak anyway!

Its a common fault with Ford's but it can be cause by a few things

my 2000 focus is doing the exact same thing atm. Slight difference is mine revs up and down like crazy when I leave her running idle.. It's due a good service and defo needs new spark plugs so i'm hoping that'll do the job..

    TPS? Or a vacuum leak?

Ran a diagnostic and it can up transmission sensor which is why the speedo is playing up but no other faults came up.

checked all the pipes i could see but ill double check them today and see whats what.

Im taking a 1.6 focus engine out today so i might be able to compare it to my 1.4 and see if anything is out of place.

BrainBee.....works perfect on mondeos and transit. Can access all systems through EOBD and use windows, move dash guages etc but seems to be limited to what i can access on the focus

You need a more focussed system so.. :D vac leak might not show up as a fault and the tps might not be far enough outside trim to be registering as a fault but might still be giving bad output.
