If someone rents a car are they the only person that's allowed to drive the car?

Would someone on Provisional Licence be allowed to drive a rental car if they're not the person that actually rents it?

You know what a provisional license is for?

Normally rental's not open driving and you have to provide licenses for anyone driving. I think every company needs a full license for a number of years anyway.

I'd say normally it's the person who rents the car who can drive it, and very often they allow you to put named drivers which will be allowed to drive. This might cost extra though.

    I don't think it's possible.

When you rent a car you state who the drivers will be and they must also produce their licences. I would very much doubt that the hire company would allow somebody with a provisional licence to drive their vehicle.

Not unless they are specifically named on the rental agreement.
If on a provisional, then it's unlikely they would be accepted by the rental company as a driver.

They probably won't allow learners' permit holders to drive either.

Full license needed for a year before rental companies will allow anyone to drive.

Any I've seen here in Ireland are 2 years minimum full license. What company allows renting with 1 year full license?

Are there many, if any, rental companies in Ireland that will rent a car to someone under 25?

I've had my full license for 5 years

Can't remember who I went with but rented twice in the UK last year with a full license for about 18 months

I hired a car in America in July 2008 after passing my test in May 2008.
