Was looking for a Diesel came across this, fail nct ,you see fail cert, think I'm reading right , my eyesight wouldn't be great,

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/03-ford-fiesta-1-4-diesel/5783022

Emission test not done oil level incorrect

    Wheel caps not removed

    lights not working etc.

would anyone bother taking a car in like this?
and nct test states to remove caps ,check oil ,lights before taking.
this is just visual of cause, cant see rest of it.

You can excuse him for not taking off the hubcaps, I've done it and it was sorted in 5 minutes so wouldn't take too much notice of that.

But bringing a car for a NCT with none of the rear lights working is unforgiveable, it says that the owner is an idiot and the oil at the wrong level says he can't even look after the basics.

I notice the ad says that he failed the NCT on 'minor things'. Clearly he has his priorities arseways if he thinks that driving a car with no brake lights and the oil at the wrong level is a 'minor' matter.

    Run a mile.

The reason it's done is because it's more desirable for a buyer to see a nct fail sheet as opposed to the seller saying no nct but it'll fly through the test!

At least looking at the fail sheet it tells me that I need to do a, b and c in order to get a new nct.

In the time I've owned my car it's had 2 ncts, each time, I'd get a quick look over done and if nothing appears wrong, send it in, each time it's been perfect mechanically, with the exception of needing a new fuel cap, but they were nit picking at that stage

Your typical clueless Irish motorist would. When it does fail they will then blame the NCT for it being nothing but another tax and a rip off.

That car sounds like it just hasn't been looked after properly which is very common among Irish cars. This is in a country where your typical motorists needs the NCT to tell them their tyres are bald and need changing.

I've never got mine looked over.
It gets serviced earlier than when due though, so I just put it in and see how it gets on, generally a month or so before I plan to service it.

It wasn't the point that it put fail cert on add ,which was jolly good of him,
but in this Case for his own sake i think he shouldn't have, and as i said you can only see visuals, the rest just seems neglect, things can you do yourself, check oil, lights etc..
but as other post have said, its properly has not been well looked after,
I wonder when it was last serviced?

I don't particularly prepare my car for NCT as I just keep it up over the year. If a light fails I change it the next day, not before the nct.
I check oil and coolant level maybe every two months or so.

I usually celebrate passing nct with an oil/air/filters service I do myself.

Good point ,most people will put right at time when a bulb or other things go wrong ,
not wait for nct to put right, just wonder how long he has been drivng around like this.

Maybe there is a logic in it.
Owner shows NCT cert with only minor things, which can be actually sorted very cheap and quick. So someone decides to buy the car, just to discover that f.e. oil level was too low intentionally, so they couldn't proceed emission test which would fail (or maybe failed beforehand).

Could be that owner is not stupid but rather smart.

Then why take it for NCT at all, like most cars on Done Deal just put no NCT.
its up to buyer then to spot faults if any.

    Heh here's the trick.
Buyer having to choose between vehicles without NCT or this one where he can see on the report only minor faults, can decide to go for this one.

Never brought a car without a long NCT.
if you put one up sale with out one ,you know whats wrong with it and its going to cost, the adds which say no time to take it in,i laugh about,
nct ctrs are nearly open 24hrs aday 7 days a week now.

I check all the lights and make sure the interior is clean, I also clip in all the rear seatbelts.

I do likewise. I failed a DOE on a lightbulb that can only have blown on my way to the test, so even with reasonable care things can go awry :(
