Ford Fiesta Fuel Filter

My fuel consumption has gone way up on my ford fiesta. It was lying idle for the summer and I've just started using it again. Anyway, I've serviced it but am going to change the fuel filter too. Here is my plan, remove the fuel pump fuse, start the engine and let it die to get rid of the pressure, remove the filter, fit the new one, replace fuse, turn ignition on and let the pump kick in, start engine and check for leaks.

    2 questions for boards users...

    1: Is my plan correct?

2: Where is the fuel filter located?

It's a 1.25 2002 Fiesta (95 to 02 model) and I'll be doing it the front drive so don't have a hoist, pit or axle stands to raise the car if it's access is only from underneath.

Have you done any other servicing on it? Seems odd to pinpoint just that one thing

the fuel filter is located under the car, you'll need axle stands.

before you change this, there are a couple of other things that might be worth doing. First the ht leads may need changing, and second cleaning the throttle body might help. There will be a sticker saying not to do this once you remove the intake hose, as ford have some sort of coating inside the throttle body, but considering the car is 11 years old, you might just resign yourself to making this part of your service.

while your cleaning the tb, it might be worth cleaning the iscv as well

Thanks Cletus. I'll think I'll replace the leads and have a look at cleaning the throttle body and control valve. I'll have to see about getting the fuel filter done at a later date. Actually I must check that the iscv is working.
