Third Provisional Question

I'm looking for a bit of info regarding applying for a third provisional; I was issued my second provisional in 2010 and almost immediately left the country and was away for a couple of years. As result I didn't get a chance to take a test, and my licence then expired in May 2012.

Can I apply for a test now, despite the fact that my licence has been out of date for a year, and then use that application to get a third provisional? If that's not possible, is my only option to do the theory test again and start from scratch on a first provisional?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have to do the theory test, no.

Apply for the test using your driver number, get your confirmation and apply for your renewed learner permit.

You may have to cancel the test as your LP might not be back in time for the test

You actually don't need a test date to get your 3rd permit, just confirmation from RSA that you've applied for test

But the delay on licences is so long that a test date may be offered before a licence actually arrives.

I think you can state when you're not available for test, so maybe if you give them 3 months it should be enough time to get a licence.
