Denied JSA

Just found out today that I was denied my JSA which I applied for back in June when I was put on temporary leave from work due to construction over the summer.

I followed the suggestions of the 3 different people I had to have meetings with about how to go about filling out the forms, explaining my scenario that I would be out of work for 3 months but be back working full time in September, which I am now again.

Was told by the last person that everything would be hunky dory after checking all my forms and I'd just have to wait for it to come through.

I finally got a letter this morning stating that I was denied JSA since I wasn't actively looking for full time work during my temporary leave and my GF got a letter this morning too stopping her dole due to some irregularity regarding me.

She has to reclaim her dole and provide all my payslips form the past few months of which I was off on temporary leave.

Can anyone provide any help as to what we should do? Obviously get to the social office next week and do an appeal, I'm guessing.

Normally when people are on a temporary lay off from their work they can get jobseekers benefit or jobseekers allowance. Did you provide a letter from your employer stating you were on a temporary lay off??? It seems very harsh denying you jobseekers because you arent looking for work while on your temp lay off. I think you should appeal this result. The issue with your partners claim... it might be the case that her means need to be reviewed as with you not being at work any means from your work on her claim can now be taken off until such time as you return to work. I dont know why you made a claim as if she is on jobseekers allowance she would be claiming an adult dependant rate for you anyway and you would only get €312.80 between you as a max pay situation would arise with a married or co-hab couple both on jobseekers allowance.

Yeah, letter was written and signed by my employer explaining I would be on temporary leave and returning to work at the start of September.

Just to note, I am back to full-time work and have been since last month. My temporary leave was due to construction which was stated in the letter. I had only received the letter this morning saying I was denied my claim I made at the start of June.

I needed the transition from my wage to allowance to go smoothly so I made sure everything was above board with every person I had to have a meeting with and made sure they were all satisfied with what I filled out and explained to them so I could avoid something like this happening.

At the final meeting in July I was told my claim would go through but that, because of backlog, I'd be waiting a long time before I'd hear anything, which was fair enough.

I just wasn't expecting to be denied my claim out of the blue.

One of the conditions of claiming a Jobseeker's Payment is you must be available for and looking for full time work. On your application form did you state you weren't looking or available for work? If so, your claim would be disallowed as you do not satisfy the conditions.
If this is the reason you have been disallowed, you can appeal this decision. You will need to supply documentary evidence of all jobs applied for during your lay off.
However, there are numerous reasons a claim can be disallowed, and the reason for your disallowance is not clear from your original post. Without the reason, any advice here is only speculation.

Any sort of information, even speculation, is helpful. I did apply for work with multiple companies during my time off to tide me over for the 3 months, one being a previous place I had worked in and another being a separate department within the area I work in.

What sort of documentation would I need as I wasn't given any by these companies I applied for, they were contacts or previous employers so were fairly informal in procedure (chat over the phone, etc)

What is the exact wording of your disallowance?
