Hi Guys, these balls are in lidl next week......

    http://www.lidl.ie/cps/rde/xchg/SID-0E082EB7-3FC8D0B9/lidl_ri_ie/hs.xsl/index_35550.htm

I normally play a pro-v1 for most of the year, and I'm under no illusions that these balls are anywhere close - but the benefits of the pro-v1 are greatly diminished with soft greens in winter, so a cheaper alternative is worth looking at. Are these balls any use at all, or are they basically the same as your typical rock hard cheapo balls with no feel?

I'm sure they're not too much worse than other hard rock balls but to be honest I wouldn't even be looking at anything like this unless they were about €8-10.

For the price they are charging there you can probably buy good name brand and heck you can even get proV1 lake balls for not too much more.

note that its 2 dozen for that price, so pretty competitive.
Any crivit balls I have used before have been rock hard though...not something you want to think on a cold December morning with a 3iron...

I bought a pack of these last year and they are absolute muck. I ended up using them at the practise range and didnt bother collecting them....

Sports World (the sports shop attached to Heatons) are selling dunlop DDH at €15 for 24. They're probably not the best but they're grand for me when I run out of better recovered balls.

They have Callaway and Nike cheap too. Not bad balls this time of year.

I'm going to wait until I lose an average of two or so balls per round until I get a better brand new. Lost none today playing safe using a Callaway Warbird, really like it:)

Oh and www.sportsdirect.com is great for getting products if they're not in store, usually cheaper online aswell.

I generally have more good finds that losses on the course so play the finds and leave the good balls - ProV1 and Velocity - for competition only. Come casual winter rounds then it's finds only, have a stockpile of two buckets at this stage. I had one round in New Forest last year where they had just cut the fescue and I had 19 good finds and about 6/7 crap balls that I left behind, one of my better hauls was to the right of the 8th in Dunmurry Springs once where I found 7 pearl ProV1's and a few nice Nikes, virtually made my round free!

Was one of the '7 pearl ProV1s' the ball you or your partners hit in there, or were you in there specifically to search for 'lost' balls ?

    Delay of game penalty ?

+1 on playing the 'better' finds in competition & throwing the rest in a box for winter. I must have 100+ finds (all standards) kept by.
Thank God for lads convinced they should slice / hook ProV1s, instead of hitting cheaper balls.
Only ever hit brand new ProV1 from a box of 12 won as a prize.
Too expensive & my game wouldn't improve enough to justify the cost.
If I have them as 'finds' in v.good condition, then fair enough, I'm more than happy to tee them up in a medal or Am-Am.

Ha ha, casual game midweek/course to ourselves, went in looking for partners ball and it was like manna from heaven, couldn't believe my eyes, it was almost comical, next time I played there I was so looking forward to this hole, went to same place and nothing :P

Have a look on Halpenny or McGuirks sites. You'll find Wilsons or Pinnacles for the same sort of money and they're fine balls.

Nah, thanks but I'll just stick with the Pro-v1's, (and I play Bridgestone B330's too). I thought maybe the lidl ones would have been an attempt at a soft-ish ball - but if they're like a pinnacle, no thanks.
