Been asking my mates oul lad to sell his lancer to me for a while as its been just lying in the garden. So he said he'd give it to me. Now it hasn't been started in 2 years and hasn't had an NCT since 2008.
Needs a good clean on interior but its for feck all.
How do I go about getting it nct'd and back dated etc??

There is no backdating of NCTs.

Just book it in for a test and if it passes you will get a cert up to the next renewal date if there are more than 90 days between now and then, or for a 15 month period if there are less than 90 days between now and the next renewal

I reckon you'll have a fair bit to do to get it started and safe on the road.

Yeah - what a great system.
Just book NCT, and once it pass, you will get a cert valid for anything between 3 and 27 months. What a great and fair system :D

Thanks. I know about no such thing as NCT back dates. Meant the tax. Is there anything I've to do there?

Once you transfer ownership into your name, you just tax it from then.

Get him to fill in the logbook with you, make sure he posts it off, and you are then only liable for the tax from the date of the change of ownership.

So no liability there for you either.
