Hi looking at getting a C5 saloon around 2009 and looking to hear from people who have one. A few questions 1 What is the best engine to go for 1.6 or 2.0. 2. what is the best spec to have. 3. Are they reliable. I have read reviews from Honest john and Parkers and the are not too bad.
I like the look of the Saloon and would like to hear from owners here and what the car is like to own and drive. [good or bad]
I am Fifty odd so not a boy racer and comfort is more important than performance. I do about 15k a year mixed driving secondary roads 70%
Motor way 30%. They seem to be good value at the moment and seem a lot of car for the money. Looking forward to hearing from your experience and views.

From what you describe a 2.0 Exclusive would be ideal as it has the hydo suspension that is lacking from 1.6. Rare here though but plenty in the UK and great value now. Smashing car.

thanks for your reply. Any owners have negative things to say, what to look out for, is the built in satnav any good and what mapping do they use.

The built in Sat Nav is fine. It uses an SD card so chances are that you'll need to buy an update. Navteq.

I'm quite interested in a C5 too. A friend of mine who is into cars said it could be a good option if you don't mind paying to fix the suspension every 2 years.

I drive everyday from Cork to Limerick so i'm looking for a car with better than my current 40MPG.

I too like the look of the c5. It's a fine solid big car.
Why would the suspension need fixing so often? Surely Psa have sorted those problems by now?! I remember the bx from 20 years ago and that being a weak spot then.

what problems does the suspension give that only lasts 2 years.

My understanding is that only the top of the range models have the Hydro Active suspension and the rest of the range have a conventional suspension setup. I don't even think the Hydro Active suspension gives much trouble on that model either. Sounds like passed down tales about Citroens from yesteryear.
