i am looking for some help with training

i am planning on doing the 5k run in the dark this year now i haven't done any running before.

what i am looking for is advice on what i should do as training (obviously walking/running) but how far should i be doing as i don't want to over do it etc.

    bit of info on myself

when i started walking i was 22 stone @ 22 years of age in the past 4 months i am now down to 18 stone and plan on continuing to get fit.
so any help would be greatly appreciated

    thanks
    kevin

Great progress already. Well done. Keep it up. Getting good dietary advise will also help you get in shape. Please keep us posted of your progress. Start a training log so we can both motivate and track your progress. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1139
