Feckin' Golf doors...

    Mornin', lads.

Bit of an issue. The driver's side passanger door on my mk4 Golf is in a permanent state of locked. Won't open from either inside or out. I've seen people on here with similar problems and have been able to unlock the door with remote central locking and persistance. Unfortunately, I don't have remote central locking and I'm afraid of doing damage to the lock.

Basically, anybody any ideas? More specifically, anybody got any tips on breaking in? Now, I get that this might be a bit of a dodgy area, but I'm trying to sort this out without forking over cash. Once I get the feckin' yoke open, it's no problem, I'll probably be able to fix it.

So, yeah, I'm this close to kickin' the #!$@in' thing out.

These problems are due to cracking of the solder joints within the central locking module leaving the lock permanently locked.

Some people suggest thumping the door repeatedly while trying to unlock as this can dislodge the system enough to make contact and unlock the door. If you can get the door card off and get access ot the module, wriggling it around might do the same thing.

After that you're down to (IME) breaking the lock module apart until you can get it open. You'll need a replacement lock when this is done.

This album shows the internals of the lock on my Passat, which will be pretty similar to the Golf one: https://picasaweb.google.com/116326432478659096908/VWPassatDoorLockInternals#

Right, so this has the potential to be a trickier job than first thought. I'll give it a few more kicks and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll just have to pry open the panel from the inside and have a looksee.

    Cheers for the info.

Before you use the crowbar, do this:-

Unlock the doors, get in to the back seat, lower the window and then pull the two door handles at the same time.

I had a bora. Same messy locking problem. Googled it and up came a lot about pulling the two handles. I tried it and it worked. Drivers door. The inner handle didn't work again but at least I could open the door using the outer handle.

Let us know how you get on.
