Can I run a wiki from a shared folder?

Anyone have any experience in this?

I'm trying to run a wiki page for my group. The IT guys won't give me admin privileges to install any software on the shared drive, which we all have access to. Does anyone know of a wiki-style software package whereby we could all edit a shared document(s), and link to various PDFs stored on the shared drive?

All the open-source wiki packages require database installation and so on.

If your fileshare is configured to allow multiple concurrent user access to the same file, you could probably use something like Wiki On A Stick that lives entirely in one XHTML file. Having said that...

Have you talked to the IT guys about what you need/want to use the wiki for, to see if there's anything they can do? It's worth trying, because there may be a completely different approach that suits your needs and is easier to set up in your existing environment.
