Mount Temple or Maryfield College?

My sister's daughter just got accepted to both Maryfield College on Griffith Avenue, and Mount Temple Comprehensive on Malahide Road. She lives about 20 min walk from both, so one or other being the closest school is not an issue.

My sister would prefer a mixed school, but heard that Mount Temple is wild, with the kids having too much of a social life to study. My niece is in a feeder school for Mount Temple so will know about 5 other kids going there.

However, my sister is wavering as the parents in our estate have a very negative view of Mount Temple and send their daughters to Maryfield College. Some of the children who my niece went to school with previously in another school, will be going to Maryfield, and there was a lot of bitching and bullying among them - however most of the girls in my sister's estate will be going to Maryfield.

However, one girl who bullied my niece hugely in her previous primary school is also going to Mount Temple. That girl lives in my sister's estate and still tries to bully my niece - encouraging other girls not to play with her on the green, etc - the other kids follow her. My niece is hardly ever on the green as she's involved in so much after school activities - so the bullying doesn't occur that often as she's not there - but it is a worry going to Mount Temple.

Would really appreciate advice/comments as deposits are due in next week.

Possibly not helping but Dominican College is also on that road and has a fantastic reputation. Maryfield is also highly regarded.

I know its too late for you now - but can I just say that Mt Temple is certainly not wild, it is a very progressive and inclusive school, kids are allowed to express themselves and have their own opinions, but they are also academic - I have two children there at the moment and I am always getting e-mails etc from their year heads re studying plans etc. We get texts if homework is not done, and a text if they have been marked absent.
It's very hard to get into - even if your child is in a feeder school you have to put their name down in junior infants. There are 15 feeder schools so you can imagine the demand. Protestants children will get priority, but having said that there are still more Catholic, and non Protestant children in the school.
