Battery keeps dying

My car's engine is in great condition, runs perfectly. However I keep needing a battery pack to restart my car each time I use it

Battery is less than a year old, once the battery has been connected to the jump pack , car works straight away but if I go to then drive the car an hour later it is flat as a battery literally

the car has not been driven in long time perhaps 2-3x in a year due to some work I got carried out and just not needing a car in general

Does this sound like an expensive fix? or am I asking how long a piece of string is?

Have you tried a different battery in it?

Yes, the previous battery did this, im not sure though if this is due to the lack of driving or if it is a more serious issue ie alternator etc

I have the battery currently on a trickle charge as of this morning to see if that charges it up fully by tomorrow as well as a battery charger for it

could be it just needs a good charge and drive

It is just a huge pain at the moment

Is car stored in a garage or outside?
If car is not started for months on end the leds and other things in the car will eventually drain the battery.
I'd just leave battery unconnected until next time I need it.

I would be looking at the alternator or something draining the battery when you are parked. You can buy a cheap battery status device which will show the state of charge and if the alternator is working. Lidl had them a while back, Alternatively if you could borrow a multimer you could do a proper check. Only do this if you are confident you can do it safely.

outside now, using it daily again. When I bought a new battery 6 months ago, the car worked straight away and when I put it back into my garage at the time, next day it was flat

I used the jump pack and it started, must be something in the car draining the battery

will do as also as recommended by the last poster too

I got caught every day for about a month when my back window heater was on and there was no indicator light on it. It was summer so I never pushed the button in general driving

I'd also check the battery connector lug is actually making contact and isn't tarnished to nothing. Jumper could be passing the battery and starting the car without it

Ive noticed that the switches for my windows the back ground light of the switch is constantly on when the car is locked and switched off -could this be what is draining my battery, im wondering

Any light thats on when the car is locked is draining the battery unless the light(s) go off after a period of time. You could check after half an hour or something.

Cant get a loan off a battery charger until Monday. If I were to jump start it with jump cables, how long would I need to drive for, for the car to be somewhat charged that I don't need to repeat this again the next day? The battery is about as flat as you can get

There was literally zero petrol in the car so I bought 25euro worth from the garage in a jerry can and have emptied that in so I have enough now to drive it for a bit

Am I looking at an hour or 2 or longer?

    bought a battery charger today, 12V 8A

guy selling was 100% polite then some other guy in a foul mood piped up with - does you battery have water in it?!

I said, Im not sure, the battery is less than a year old and hasn't been driven in almost a year- just needs a charge I think

he snaps back about - if I don't know what you'r doing the battery could blow up etc etc

I thanked him for his advice and charged the battery up, thankfully the battery didn't blow up and I knew what I was doing by reading the simple instructions

Perhaps the guy just didn't want to sell the charger as he was too attached to it?
