Golf club standards and fitting

I have been doing quite a bit of reading for my up coming club fitting.
Seems that club lengths are not standard accross manafacturers, so they are all different lengths for a standard set.
You go into get fitted you get measured and they consult a chart that says add 1 inch. Now you have 2 different manafacturers 2 different say 5 irons one is 38 inches one is 37 inches now adding 1 inch to both of those clubs surely gives you different results. Same scenario for lie.
Surely this means 95% of fitting is a load of Crap???

    Thoughts?

Best thing is to decide what irons u want to get fitted for and then find out who and where will fit u for that specific brand.
I personally got fitted by callaway fitting agent for my irons.

    hope this helps u

The order sheet for the clubs you're interested in should specify the length of the standard clubs, so if the fitter is saying you need a 38" club, then the +1"/2", etc...should be relative to the standard club on the order form

Bit optimistic thinking 5% isnt I would say !

(Have given my views on this topic plenty here in the past so will leave it at that)

When the Fitter has narrowed it down to a couple of models or brands then the fit will be done with the length/lie of those brands in mind and adjust accordingly.
