Not that there seems to be much interest in it
who do you think may make the breakthrough to the full team

Chris Wood looks a decent match play player and maybe a player for the big day imo

I think Thorbjorn Olesen is nearly a cert for the team next year, really a big game player! From the GB & I side I can't see anyone in the team making it unless Paul Casey can continue his rise back to the top and maybe Stephen Gallacher might have an outside chance.

Don't think Chris Wood has really pushed on, remember two years ago when Darren Clarke won the Madeira Islands Open before winning the Open? Chris Wood was 4/5 shots ahead going into the final round and made a meal of it.

Great driver off the deck by lawrie to the par in 2 a while ago.
Anyone have his number, I'd like to advise him on course strategy... :D

Watched Monty duff one in Baltray in '08, was just getting into golf then, it was great to see the pro's can do that also!

Not to start an argument about the merits or otherwise of the Seve Trophy but is there an element of group think among the top GB&I players about not playing this. As in they're all looking at each other thinking "well if he's not playing why should I"...pity really.

Anyway, love all the team events so this weekend is pure golf porn. Europe have the better team on paper but GB&I have the better record and you would expect the players to step up well. All very tight so far, although I would have expected Bjorn and Jiminez to put up a better showing in the first match.

Looking at the scoring, it looks as if Bjorn only scored on 2 of the 16 holes today! It is fourball right?

Have to say I fully agree with Paul Lawries comments on it "can't understand it....disappointing"

They make comments like "we can't play every week, schedule doesn't allow" etc, and yet look at the effort the USA players made to attend the Presidents Cup. Money talks I suppose.

Anyway, great start for Europe, hope they win they've lost it enough times!

I have tried to like Casey but he doesn't make it easy.
Referring to himself in the 3rd person as 'P.C' is just not on.
Saying that people forget what's it's like when he connects with the ball.

I do understand that a lot of these pro golfers are up their own aholes but PC must have the biggest ego of them all(apart from Tigs maybe.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest

ajcurry wasn't his biggest fan at the start but then aj softened to him a bit.

    Why no 'I' in the 'GB & I' ?. Anybody Know ?

    C'mon (Continental) Europe !
More important for our future R Cup teams that the 'Europeans' win this week.

They should have the same venue for the Seve as the Ryder Cup every 4 years. (When Eur are at home obv)

It'd be a big boost for the Seve Trophy and great preparation for Team Europe for the following year.

Might result in some of the big names having less commitments too.

Excellent idea (from a Ryder Cup point of view), but doesn't that place (confirm) the Seve Trophy as a filler between Ryder Cups.

Personally, I'm of this view, and I'm surprised that guys aren't more eager to play in the Seve Trophy in order to show the Ryder Cup Captain & his advisors that they are up for Team Matchplay & the pressure involved.

It does, but if it was to be seen as a filler that's a step up from what it is at present.

Leaving the emotion of the man himself out of it, it's a comp that just seems to be going through the motions.

I'm not sure how they could link it, but it should count towards Ryder Cup picks. Today it only serves to give an outsider a bit of a chance to make a name for himself in matchplay... And that's at a push

Yes, agreed. But allocating 'points' is difficult. How, for instance, could you reward an excellent performance of one player in foursome(s) where his partner has a 'mare and they lose the match. More Captain's picks, rather than selection by ranking postion.

(didya notice how many times PMcG mentions Casey's record at Gleneagles?)
