shower problems

I have power shower (its only hot if immersion is hot).

Suddenly its stopped working. The tank in the hot press is cold too.

The shower seems to be working fine except its only giving out cold water.

Can the immersion just stop working like this? Is it a big job to fix if it had to be replaced? Any suggestions?

    Thanks

First check that fuse board doesn't have any switches tripped .
If your immersion switch has a light on it see if it lights up when the switch is turned on.
Some immersions have a reset button under the cap ( be careful when working under the cap as it contains live electrics ) switch the power off when removing the cap. The reset button is a tiny button.
You would really need a multimeter to test the electrics.
Does it not work on sink or bath , if not the immersion might of overheated and tripped the stat , or tripped the switch at the board or the switch itself faulty.

The shower switch has a light which is on.

The imersion has an on/off switch and a bath/shower switch. Neither have a light so no way to tell there.

When you say fuse you mean on main house fuse box?

The timer switch is separate for immersion too and that has light which is on

yes an immersion can stop working just like that.
although usually if the element in it goes it will trip the mcb or rcd at the board.
some failures will stop the immersion heating without tripping anything at the board
as sullzz pointed out some thermostats have a high temp overload that could trip
the thermostat itself could be gone faulty
you could even have a loose wire in the switch.

one thing to note with heater elements like immersions is that it is possible to have 230v at the connections and for it still not to work, you need an ammeter to check this.
