Primera diesel problem

    Somebody may help please......
    My Primera P12 SVE 2.2 diesel manual,
    It has intermittent loss of power, sometimes starting from idle, did a research on the web and found the solution to replace 'Suction Control Valve'.
    The RAC mechanic could not communicate with the engine via the diagnostic, as the previous owner had messed up the wires connected to the computer, (CD/DVD/Radio etc never worked since I had the car).
    Any suggestion how I can run a diagnostic/repair the computer will be highly appreciated. Or should I just replace the Suction Control Valve which will roughly cost £260? Please guide.

    Engine Management Light (yellow) is also on in dashboard.
