Freeview HD

I'm looking at getting a new TV, and some of the models that I'm looking at have UK Freeview HD built in.

I get my terrestrial signal from Sheriff's Mountain, which I believe is a relay for the Limavady transmitter. As a result, I only get a limited selection of UK Freeview channels?

Does anyone know if I could get the 4 UK Freeview HD channels from Sheriff's Mountain, or are these also only available from a main transmitter like Limavady, Divis or Brougher?

The current Freeview HD lineup is on a public service multiplex, so all Freeview transmitters carry it.

You will also get BBC3/CBBC HD, whenever it starts, probably by the end of the year.

    Thanks for that.

I'll spend a few quid extra and get a Freeview HD TV.

Would be worth posting the makes & models of the tvs that don't cost 'a few quid extra'. The tuner needed for Freeview HD is commonplace now.

I was looking at this with Freeview HD:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL32W654-32-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B00CALFJ26/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-theater&ie=UTF8&qid=1380739830&sr=1-2&keywords=sony

Now that you've mentioned it, all of the current models seem to have the HD tuner.

Yes, even if you see one where Freeview HD isn't explicitly mentioned, say in ads. not aimed at UK buyers, it's possible the tv supports it.

It's worth mentioning that you will also get film four.

Might be worth trying to get a Saorview approved TV (see their website for list) to make sure you don't run into any potential problems.

Many Saorview tvs won't work with Freeview HD though. Ensure the tuner in any Saorview tv is DVB-T2 not DVB-T, then you should be good to go.

Not in HD, so not relevant here at all.

Ah yeah but its only a recent addition to freeview light so the op might not know.

Also worth mentioning the make that only allows either saorview or freeview to be viewed, when switching between channels

It locks the country or something like that, you can get both but not at the same time

I think it's Panasonic, regulars here will know for definite

You know when tuning in at the start or whenever it asks for country
On most tvs this wont matter, you'll get the sv & fv channels stored

On certain tvs Panasonic i think, it only stores the channels of the selected country

So you'd be retuning all the time fwicr

I seen in a thread somewhere here, I'm on the phone so couldn't be bothered trying to search & link now but someone will know more in this that reads the forum

Yes, indeed, Panasonics are hobbled in this and other aspects. Avoid Panachronics at all costs if you want to receive services from two countries.

Bought Sony KDL32W654 a few months ago ... perfect for Freeview HD channels and Saorview (with RTE2 in HD)

Have a Panasonic (P42GT50) & can pick up Saorview & Freeview HD and both are displayed on the same EPG. (although Saorview stations are in the 800's ) Also has Freesat, which has its own EPG

You have the exception that disproves the rule. There are plenty of threads regarding Panasonic problems in Ireland. Here is a recent one:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057026781

There are also horrendous problems with an early model that though was MPEG4 would not decode Saorview without first changing the software to European mode, tuning it, then changing back. This had to be done each time the channels changed.

I repeat my advice to avoid Panachronics if you want to receive 2 countries. Why risk it, there are many sets out there that work?
