Tax credit allocation?

Girlfriend has taken up a second employment. I went into a tax office to get a new tax cert for her. I was told to ring the Revenue. As I found out it has to do with tax credit allocation. Could you advise me please?

    The situation:
1st job since October last year but very-very casual, it's a relief, job is there if only someone else takes holidays, so only couple of days in 2-3 months if she's lucky and no more than 1.5hrs/day. The days she has worked in 1 year are small drop in the ocean.
2nd job since last Thursday, employed full time(8hrs a day) temporarily, I think till Christmas, not sure after that she gets more.
I wonder how should I allocate the tax credit? In order to do that I have to phone the Revenue? Her annual earnings won't be more than €4-4.5k before tax. Thanks for your reading and inputs!

Hi, I work for thesaurus and it all depends really on how much your think your girlfriend is going to earn in each employment. A single persons Cut off point would be in and around €630 per week and their credit would be in and around €63 per week. What the tax office mean by allocating them is that they can be split out whatever way you decide so if your girlfriend wanted to split them in two she could half allocated to her 1st job and half to the 2nd. It does sound like more of them should be allocated to the 2nd job as it would seem she will be earning more money in that employment so it could be split 2/3 and 1/3 so the first job would have a cut off of €210 per week and a credit of €21 per week and the second job would have a cut off point of €420 per week and a tax credit of €42 per week so in effect that would mean she could earn €100 per week in her first job without paying tax and earn €200 per week in the 2nd job without paying tax. The USC Cut off points would have to be split aswell in the same ratio as the tax credits and cut off points.

FYI you won't be able to request this on your girlfriend's behalf from Revenue, she will have to phone them herself.

Yes that's true but your girlfriend can ring the tax office herself and have the credits allocated once she has her own PPS no. and both employers PPS numbers (1890333425).

Thank you all! I wonder is there any limit on allocation? Because nearly all credit should go to the second one as the first as scarce throughout the year as hen's teeth. Herself is looking forward to great difficulties then she's not a native speaker, tax-related issues are hard to explain even for an english speaking one. :-(( But we try our best!

She can allocate them any way she likes. And Revenue can advise if you have any queries on the best way to do it.

The best thing for her to do is make the call when you're in the room with her. When she gets through to an operator, she can confirm who she is and then ask can her boyfriend speak for her as her English isn't great. I'm sure it won't be a problem :)
