    Hi all,

With my dish pointing at 28.2e, and if I wanted 3 boxes (with twin tuners) to be able to watch and record any combination of channels,

    what
    a) LNB's - a twin with H & V or a quattro
    b) other bits - multiswitch / diseqc
    do I need ?

An Octo LNB (8 independant outputs), 2 feeds to each receiver with 2 spare outputs.

Is you dish a Sky oval dish or a standard dish?

I only have 4 cables to the dish

Can you run 2 extra cables?

It might be cheaper to run the extra cables and purchase the Octo LNB.

If you go down the multiswitch route the quad LNB will be OK with a quad LNB compatible 5/8 multiswitch. If you can't find one of these multiswitches you'll require a quattro LNB and Multiswitch. DiSEqC switches not required.

Adding extra cables isn't an option.

OK, so the LNB must match the multiswitch - yes ?

Thinking forward, with a 5x8 multiswitch and with 4 cables coming in from the dish, could the dish just use two cables for 28.2 if a second dish lnb / monoblock be installed to point at 19.2e ?

All multiswitches work with quattro LNBs but some newer models will also work with the standard quad LNB. When you're researching multiswitches just be aware not all will work with the quad LNB you have on the dish now.

The satellite signal received at the LNB carries the channels in 4 sub-bands, each of these 4 sub-bands must be available to the multiswitch and so requires 4 cables from the LNB.

A quattro LNB feeds each sub-band separately down the cable to the multiswitch. A quad compatible multiswitch extracts the required sub-band from each of the 4 feeds.

If you wanted to receive Astra 19e also a 9/8 multiswitch would be required and 4 extra feeds from an LNB pointing at that satellite.
