brother has an S4 and once he uses his phone the wifi is gone on every other device in the house!!
Would love to hear if anyone came across this before and how to rectify it.

What wireless router do you have? Have you checked to see if there's a firmware upgrade available for the router?

My router is a upc one Cisco EPC2425
Found the online instruction manual for it but cant find any firmware updates
    current firmware is epc2425-E10-5-v202r12812-111007cs_upc.bin
    Thanks for replying

Yeah that's a lousy router. You are forced to use your own gear if you want proper wifi, the upc one goes into meltdown when there are multiple users.

You can buy a "proper wifi router" and connect that to the upc one (yes you are stuck with the upc one for it's cable modem component). This requires some fiddling with configuration tho so it's best to get your token network engineer mate around. While you are doing this you should get them to setup a QoS router too (helps make internet smooth when there are multiple users). Hardware cost of this = e50 to e100. The main cost is your engineer buddies time!

It's best to not use the "dual band" feature of the upc, this is what is causing your problem. Rather it's better to use the upc for wifi-G, and a newer router for wifi-N - thus having two seperate networks. That way the newer devices don't interfere with the old. Still, what you have should work - just with lousy speeds. It should not actually disconnect people...

Probably only allowed a certain number of devices before the IP conflicts start emerging. Disaster.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Rang upc on friday and explained the problem the chap changed some settings on the router and that seems to have solved the problem :-)
