I have navigon on my iPhone, which I find good but the battery life is a killer.

Whats your best option to buy at the moment?

Not too pushed on having Bluetooth or any of that in it.. just navigation really.

Make sure you get one with lifetime map upgrades.

First of all, What is your price range?

SatNavs can vary in price and literally all that changes is quality of screens and instead of a pointer showing you where to go it's a car, also it varys in speeds and thr costly ones talk to you.

Instead of a little pain, you figure plonking 250 is better? You have the iphone with you allmthe time, the satnav will remain in the car and could get nicked

There is a dedicated GPS forum too. You might get more answers over there.

There is no "best" out there. In GPS forum the war rages on between the few main makers.

Imo, phone is better than dedicated nav. I only base that on that dedicated navs tend to be left on the dash and invites scumbags to break in.

A phone cradle will charge the phone and (dep on phone) will initiate driving mode/gps as soon as you cradle it. And you always have it with you.

A subscription to a nav app will cost same or less than an actual GPS unit.

What's a pain about it? You're still going to have to plug in the sat nav, you might as well just plug in your phone and save €250

Tomtom on the iphone..love it and its gotten me out of binds on numerous occasions.
Only problem is your locked then to the iphone as if you decided to change to Android the purchase won't follow you over.

Navfree is the best GPS ive used its on iphone and android and its free.

Its as good if not better than many dedicated gps units. Maps are updated regularly and it has some nice features.

For regular gps units free map updates for life is needed as a map update can cost more than 1/2 the price of the unit.

That's what bugs me about this forum, you ask a question and never get a straight answer. I said I had no interest in using my iPhone as a satnav but instead I just receive a load of reasons why I should use the iPhone...

Yeah sometimes the conversation doesn't go your way.

OP has a thread in GPS now, please use that to continue

Walk in to halfords they have plenty on sale and will demo them to you.

I have garmin and liked its ease of use and bought another for a friend. Didn't get life time maps upgrade, both dont show some motorways and they want 80 euro to update maps
So I never buy their product again.

Buy a android tab with gps and take avantage of having a multi functionality device.

I got a Garmin in 2008 as I drive in the UK a lot and there was no sat nav on phones then. I still use it in the UK and as I have lifetime update it's always up to date. I've had zero problems with mine, it's easy to use and I've done almost 15k miles with it at this stage.

As has been said Halfords do good deals on them, just make sure it has lifetime updates and for your €250 you should come away with a good Sat Nav and spare cash.
